GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! is a musical parody which takes the form of a backers’ audition for a new musical about Johannes Gutenberg. Two aspiring playwrights present their historically inaccurate interpretation of the invention of the printing press. The composer Bud and librettist Doug completely believe in the show and will do anything to get it to Broadway. They craft and perform an egotistic yet passionate Gutenberg, a Satan-worshiping monk who wants to keep people from reading, and a full cast of other wacky characters. The night of their piece’s public debut, not only do they have to present the show’s songs and scenes, but they also have to explain the “brilliant” motivations behind each part to convey the full meaning to their audience.
The show is recommended for audience members aged 13 years and older.
